MoJ signs shared services deal with Accenture

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has awarded a five-year shared services contract to Accenture, which will operate a number of operations across the central department's network of organisations, including HM Prison Service and the Ministry's Head Office.

The £22 million deal will see the development and implementation of a shared service to support the MoJ's human resources, payroll, finance, and procurement operations, and is expected to deliver annual savings of £28 million by 2014.

Accenture has described the MoJ contract - which will be implemented collaboratively with Steria and Savvis - as "one of the first pan-departmental shared service solutions the UK central government".

Mark Lyons, Accenture's United Kingdom and Ireland Managing Director for Health & Public Service, said the company will work to "Improve the quality and consistency of services that it offers its 80,000 employees".

"Accenture's selection as the lead systems integrator builds on our successful delivery in similar collaborative arrangements across the Ministry of Justice and for other public sector clients," he added.

The contract with the Ministry of Justice is the second deal announced by Accenture in March, following confirmation at the start of the month that it had signed a five-year deal with the City of London to create a procurement shared service centre.
